DISCUSSION

ON ISLAM

Dr. Shilby and Fr. Mazur offered an informative presentation on Islam on February 3rd.

1ST RECONCILIATION RETREAT

On February 6th, a picnic, puppet show and skits were among the ways information on the sacrament of Reconciliation was shared with students (and their parents) preparing to receive the sacrament for the first time.

SCOUT SUNDAY

Scouts of all ages and their leaders joined in the procession at the 9:00 AM Mass on Sunday, February 6th, and then held a reception following Mass.

WORLD DAY OF THE SICK

On the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11th, our community  hosted a special evening Mass with Anointing of the Sick.

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY

Couples wishing to renew their wedding vows did so at the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday, February 13th. 

Pre-Cana couples also attended.

MARKS OF GRATITUDE

February 12th &13th St. Bernadette School students gave bookmarks to parishioners at Mass, expressing their gratitude for Catholic Education.

TWO NIGHT PRESENTATION ON VATICAN II IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH

On Tuesday, February 15th, our pastor, Fr. Paul Seil, spoke on Pope John XXIII, and the history that led to the council.

On Wednesday, February 16th, Bishop Donald Trautman of Erie, PA, spoke on the Second Vatican Council,

his experiences as a young priest in attendance and some of the effects of the Council documents on the church.

PRE-CANA RESUMES

On February 11th and 13th, for the first time in many years, our parish hosted a Pre-Cana Program for those preparing for marriage.

ALTAR SERVER AWARD

Abbey Smolinski, pictured here with Bishop Kmiec, received this year’s parish award for Server of the Year at a Mass downtown on February 19th.

FOOD AND FUN AT MARDI GRAS PARTY

A day of cooking and hard work by volunteers from St. Lawrence

and St. Bernadette Parishes led to a shared evening

of authentic Cajun food and New Orleans style music.

SCRABBLEFEST

On the morning of March 1st,

word enthusiasts gathered to play scrabble to raise monies for literacy.

RETREAT TIME

Cradle Beach hosted a retreat on February 13th for our teens preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation.

 

FIRST RECONCILIATION

On Tuesday, March 1st,

77 Second Grade children celebrated their First Reconciliation.

ASHES TO ASHES

Lent began with Ash Wednesday,

which took place on March 9th this year.  Click the heading to see our Lenten Environment and how it got that way.

TEDDY BEAR SUNDAY

As their service project, our Kindergarten class collected Teddy Bears March 6th.

Blessed by Fr. Paul, they will be given to children in the hospital.

CHICKEN BAR-B-Q

The school sponsored a mouth-watering Chivetta’s chicken barbeque on Sunday, March 6th.

NOW “THE ELECT”

On March 13th, our RCIA were “sent” from our community at the 11:00 AM Mass to the Rite of Election with the bishop where they took their next step toward full initiation in the church at the Easter Vigil.

TEACHING MASS

At 11:00 AM on March 13th, the First Eucharist students and their families (and a lot of other folks) learned more about the Mass at a special Teaching Mass  with Fr. Paul and Deacon Steve.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES TIME AGAIN

One of the possibilities for Lenten almsgiving is Catholic Charities,

an agency with a wide variety of ways of helping local people in need.

Watch for information in the mail and join your fellow parishioners in supporting their good works.

MARYKNOLL PRESENTATION

Justice and Peace Committee sponsored a presentation on the Maryknoll missions and   a special Stations of the Cross led by Paul Bork on Monday, March 14th.

COMMUNITY GARDEN PLANTED

At last the long rains ended and it was dry enough to plant our community garden the evening of June 8th.

LIFE TEEN

MASS & PICNIC

 June 5th included some lively activity!

JUNE BLOOD DRIVE

Parishioners both gave blood and gave time to assist in sponsoring this drive, which now takes place several times a year.  Consider helping!

J & P HOSTS HABITAT

June 13th’s Dessert & Discussion featured a speaker from Habitat for Humanity/Buffalo.

PENTECOST

Scrolls with gifts of the Holy Spirit were distributed.

TWO PRINCIPALS

Our new principal, Mr. Pecorella,

met the school faculty on June 17th.

FATHER’S DAY BLESSING AND GIFT

The weekend of June 18th and 19th, fathers received a special blessing at Mass

and a small gift from the parish after Mass.

SOFTBALL TROPHY

St. B’s Girls Softball received the Southtowns Division Runner-Up Trophy.
