The Lord Jesus dictated this prayer called “The Chaplet of Divine Mercy” to St. Faustina on September 13, 1935.  In this prayer we unite ourselves with Jesus on the cross and we are calling upon God the Father.  When we pray “have mercy on us and on the whole world, the word “us” means the person praying and those he wants to pray for.  The words “the whole world” means all the people alive on earth and all the souls suffering in Purgatory.   When we pray this way we are carrying out a great act of mercy.

There are special promises attached to this chaplet.  Jesus said to St. Faustina, “It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet” (1541) and He added, “if it…be compatible with My will.” (1731 diary of St. Faustina)  Jesus will also grant a happy and peaceful death for those who pray the chaplet as well as those we pray it for.

When praying the chaplet, do not change the words, especially singular to pleural.  Do not add any names.  Do not remove or add words. In this manner, we will be praying it exactly the way it was given to St. Faustina by Jesus and the form in which she recorded it in her diary.  In other words, it will keep the devotion pure.  The one condition for having a devotion to The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is to pray with a “trusting and merciful” heart. We must completely “trust” that our prayers are being heard and God, in His great mercy, will answer them if it be His will.   By praying this chaplet we are bringing the whole world closer to God.   Jesus, I Trust in You!

Begin with:

Our Father… Hail Mary…Apostles Creed…

On the Cross…Eternal Father, I

offer You the Body and Blood,

Soul and Divinity, of Your Dearly

beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ,

in atonement for our sins, and those

of the whole world.

On the small beads…For the sake of His

sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and

on the whole world.

After praying the prayers on the small beads,

begin at the cross again with the Eternal Father

and then again the prayer on all the small beads.

Do this five times then end with…

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,

have mercy on us and on the whole world.

             (Say 3 times)
