FR. MERRICK’S

LEGACY CONTINUES

Rebecca Stephenson is this year’s recipient of the Fr. Merrick Bednar Conviction of the Heart Scholarship. 

PLANTING DAY

On Saturday, May 21st, a small but dedicated group of parishioners were rewarded with a sunny day as they worked to brighten up our grounds.

SISTERS CELEBRATE 150 YEARS

The Franciscan Sisters of the Neumann Communities displayed celebratory historical panels at St. Bernadette’s in May because our business manager, Sr. Jeanne Weisbeck, is a member of their Buffalo area community.

STEVE JEKIELEK ORDAINED A PRIEST

On Saturday, June 4th, 2011, Steve Jekielek, who has served here as a transitional deacon while completing his studies at Christ the King Seminary, was ordained a priest by Bishop Edward Kmiec at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.

PARISH NEIGHBORS HELP MAKE EASTER JOYFUL

Parish Neighbors made a double effort to make Easter happier for those in need.  On Tuesday, April 19th, they delivered spring flowers to parish shut-ins and on Wednesday, April 20th, they gave out Easter gifts of food for those in need.  Thanks to all who helped, either by delivering or donating!

PALM SUNDAY

An 11:00 AM procession from the school to the church, accompanied by enthusiastic waving of palms, gave Holy Week an outstanding start.

HOLY THURSDAY  - APRIL 21, 2011

Seder Teaching, A Friendship Meal, Mass of the Lord’s Supper, and a Vigil in the Chapel.

GOOD FRIDAY                 APRIL 22, 2011

Morning Prayer, Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion, Divine Mercy Novena, and Tenebrae/Stations of the Cross.

The  Lighting of the Easter fire, seven readings in the darkness, a glorious Alleluia, three baptisms and a big party!

BIBLE STUDY

The "Good News in New Places" study began morning and evening sessions on April 27th.

SPRING BANQUET

On May 4th new officers were installed at the annual banquet, held this year at David’s Grill.

DIVINE MERCY

May 1st was Divine Mercy Sunday.  Special devotions took place at 3:00 PM in the church.

 

CHILDREN’S CHOIR

SINGS FOR EASTER

Wonderful music at all our Masses included the special treat of children’s voices at  11:00 AM Mass  and The Women’s Choir at 9:00 AM.

FIRST EUCHARIST

Three Masses the weekend of May 7th and 8th

included celebrations of First Eucharist:

5:00 PM (pictured at left, click link for more) and

9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

Moms were pleased to receive a gift of flowers after Masses May 7th & 8th.

CONFIRMATION

More than 60 young people representing three parishes received the sacrament from Msgr. Slubecky on Saturday, May 14th.  (Pictures to come.)

 

MAY CROWNING

An evening of Marian devotions on Friday, May 13th, was highlighted by the crowning of Mary (and Jesus) by First Eucharist children.

50TH JUBILEE

School Secretary Sr. Mary Raymond Heckler

(between Sr. Anthony and Sr. Priscilla) celebrated 50 years

as a Sister of Mercy this year.

 

 

RED RIBBON ROTORS!

A Homeland Security helicopter

and lots of other equipment 

came to our school  on October 25th

for Drug Awareness Week.

ALL SOULS DAY

Mass on November 2nd included a special remembrance of our dead.

DEACON PETER

Friar Peter Tremblay,

a parishioner here since birth,

was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Grosz, on Saturday, November 12th, at the chapel at St. Francis High School.

PARENTS TAKE THE FIELD

Pictured here on Saturday, November 12th, moving one of the soccer nets around the pile of soil to be added to the ball diamond, are some of the volunteers who work with the St. Bernadette School sports programs and assist in caring for the parish facilities.
